Writing a book is a big project, with many steps in the process. Here are answers to common questions about how we do it. If you have questions that aren’t answered here, please email us at tom@thewordsmith.com.
Q: I want to publish a book, but I’m not a good writer. How does this work?
Ideally you’ve given presentations and recorded them. If that’s the case, TheWordsmith has developed a four-step process that we’ve found works well:
• We transcribe your presentations.
• We edit this material into written form.
• We post it in small chunks (500 words or so) on a blog and on Facebook.
• After we post all of the material, we assemble it into manuscript form and help you publish it as a book.
It’s that simple!
Q:Do I have to publish a book? What if I just want to blog?
We help you optimize your content. At the end of that process, you can choose to publish a e-book (for the Kindle, iPad, Android, etc.) a print book, or no book at all.
Q: Why do you post the content on a blog and Facebook?
There are several benefits to publishing your content on a blog and Facebook.
• As we publish it, your content gets indexed by the search engines, and you gain validation as an expert in your field (this is search engine optimization at work).
• You connect with people who value your content, and will be likely to purchase your book when it becomes available.
• You demonstrate goodwill, by sharing some of your best content at no cost to the audience.
• By accumulating Facebook fans, you build a marketing database – to which you can market your existing products and services; and your new book when the times comes.
Q: What if I don’t have a blog or a Facebook account?
No problem. We’ll set you up.
Q: How do we get the book published?
There are many options for self-publishing. You can do that yourself, we can hand it off to a trusted third party, or we can do it for you. Or if you think your book has appeal to major publishing houses, we’ll help you make that pitch.
Q: What about marketing the book?
We can put a masterpiece together, but what good is it if no one knows about it? We want people to talk about your book, recommend it to their friends, and buy multiple copies as gifts. Achieving that requires a sound strategy from pre-publication through the shipping of the product.
To that end, we will help you create and execute a product launch plan that will connect with your ideal customers, and help you make the biggest impact you can with your book.
Q. Who edits my content?
Tom Stacey does all the editing and writing. He’s a professional writer with experience as a journalist, author and copywriter. Check out what people have to say about his ability as a writer.
Q: How much does it cost?
Each project is unique, so we don’t have an off-the-shelf package.
Editing is labor intensive work but it costs less than you might think. We start with a three-month minimum contract to convert your recorded material into two optimized blog posts per week.
We’ll also optimally position your content for the audience you are targeting. We’ll help you:
• Determine a unique angle that will make your content stand out.
• Develop that theme throughout the work.
• Plan the best marketing strategies for your book.
